The first step to edit your banner design text is to make sure that the file you are working with is in psd format and that you have text layers you can edit. If the file you are working with will only have one layer it’s probably an image layer and you can’t edit the text on that layer.
How to select and edit text that exists in your document
In order to edit text that exists in your psd file we need to select the text. There are 2 main ways to select text in photoshop.
The first way to select text is by clicking twice on the “T” icon on the right of the text layer in the layers panel, once you do that the text on the document will be selected and you can write your new text.
The second way to select text and this is the more recommended way is by selecting the “Type Tool” and click on the text you want to edit (as long as the text has a text layer you should be able to select and edit the layer).
The reason this methods is better then the first one is because sometimes we have psd files with a lot of layers and it’s hard to find the text layer we want to edit and with this tool we can just select and change any text we want on the document.
How to insert new text to your banner design
Inserting new text to your banner design is really easy. All you need to do is select the “Type Tool” and then click once on your document and write the text you want to add.
Editing your text properties
To be able to edit the text options you need to click on the “Type Tool” and make sure that the layer of the text you want to edit is select. After clicking on the type tool top window with the text properties options will show up and you will be able to edit there the font family, font size, font style (regular, bold, italic), font alignment & font color.
How to edit text in an image without editing options when the background is a solid color
When you want to edit an image text and you don’t have the psd file you might be able to cover the text with a color and insert new text. When the background behind the color is a solid color all you need to do is to select the “Brush Tool” choose the background color behind the text you want to edit. Create a new layer and brush over the text. After the text is cover simply insert new text like you have learn above.
You can view in the end of the video above how to follow this step and edit the image text.
